Oh, no, not again!

Your lousy alarm clock didn’t wake you up when it was supposed to - or did you hit the snooze button too many times? You can’t remember, and at this point, that’s not important!

Because you’re about to be late for school!

Quick, get dressed, grab your bag, and don’t forget to nab a piece of toast on the way out (even in these dire circumstances, the importance of breakfast can’t be understated)!

Running With a Mouthful of Toast is a one-player game using the Carta system by Cat McDonald of Peach Garden Games.

It blends the silliness of Saturday morning cartoons with a handful of screwball anime tropes - magical girls, giant mechs, alien invasions, time travelers, sentai squads, and strange new fantasy worlds abound along the likes of delinquent mimes, ravenous pigeons, horse girls, and good dogs that you can pet.

Highly recommend this gem of a game.

  • Fun and light-hearted theme that will put a smile on your face.
  • High replay value with a unique experience each time.
  • Quick set up and easily understandable rules.
  • Perfect game for relaxing or if it's a slow day at work.

If you're looking for a simple solo game that will put you in a good mood after playing, definitely check this game out.

Is this a "choose your own adventure" type game? A more complex gamebook? A solo boardgame? How long is it? I love solo games and the theme sounds really fun, but I'm hesitant to buy without knowing more about this.

Thanks for your questions! This game uses a standard deck of playing cards with associated prompts for each card. It's kind of similar to an "infinite runner" style game in some regards, but there are a few key choices and special events that make sure no two games play out the same way. Each game lasts between 5 and 20 minutes, in my experience, so it takes no time to pick up and play, and it's got a lot of replayability.
